What is a Jostaberry

JostaberryIf you like gooseberries and blackcurrants, then you will love  the Jostaberry.

It is a cross between the two berries, and produces what look like over-large blackcurrants.

Originating from Germany, these succulent berries have a slightly sharp kick that makes a delicious jam. If the fruit is left to really ripen, (and you can beat the birds) they are sweet enough to eat raw.

Although we do grow some of our own, the majority of our Jostaberries come form the Wolfe Brothers at Neika down in the Huon Valley.

Due to its German heritage the pronunciation is with a silent J, so it is pronounced Yosterberry.
